Social Cook Book

This Social Cook Book is a publication made in collaboration with Latoyah Burlace and Luca Ashdown for the non-profit organisation Groenten Zonder Grenzen (GZG). GZG is an organisation based in Rotterdam that collects leftovers from the markets in Rotterdam (meaning all the produce left at the end of the day that eventually will be disposed). Once a week they create a free vegan meal with these leftovers and organise a dinner for people who like to join. The audience for these dinners is very diverse, from young to old with many different backgrounds. Unfortunately during the corona crisis they weren’t able to host these dinners and therefore they started to make take away meals. With these take away meals a very important part of GZG dissappeared; sharing a meal with others and having interesting conversations. To bring GZG to the people’s home, we created a social cookbook containing three booklet. Each booklet was designed with three focus points in mind; plant-based cooking, creating awareness around leftover food and social inclusion. The first booklet is an introduction to GZG and their view on food waste and plant-based cooking. The second booklet contains recipes that GZG uses in their dinners with replaceable ingredients to encourage people to use what is left in their fridge. And the third booklet has tips to become more in contact with your neighbours by the means of food.
